MASK DESIGN GUIDELINES
When you make your design, keep in mind that you’re making a mask that must fit and articulate on a real person’s head. Feel free to be creative and original, but keep in mind your designs need to loosely follow the shape of a human head. So, don’t send drawings of a werewolf with a ten inch snout, or a demon with horns that stick out two feet on each side. Silicone masks are made to move and wear comfortably around your face. Also, we’re looking for a good mask, so you can send in a full body design, but keep in mind we’ll probably cut the paper off at the shoulders and use the rest as a coaster. You can submit black and white images or color, your choice. Here are some general questions you can ask yourself to keep you in the right direction:
  • I sure like this design, but will other people also want this mask?
  • How versatile is this design? (People love a character that is versatile)
  • Would this design make a comfortable mask?
  • Does this design have too much bulk around the mouth, jaw, or neck that would hinder movement?
  • Have I included in my design a way to have openings for eyes, ears, nose, and mouth? (If not, just imagine wearing a sandwich bag on your head for 2 hours, then rethink things a little)
  • Will this design require 20 pounds of rubber to make and end up as heavy as John Merrick’s head? (If so, just imagine wearing a sandwich bag on your head for two hours with a foot long sandwich in it, then rethink things a little)
